Glenthorn Growers Dinner

MBMG, one of the UK’s leading fresh produce businesses, held their annual growers dinner at Knights Hill Hotel on Thursday 21st February.

The Grower of the Year award was presented to Douglas Pickup who runs a 4,500 acre contract farming operation based at Syderstone in Norfolk. Mr Pickup has worked for Sentry farming for approx 20 years and was presented the award by Nick Morton, Procurement Director of MBMG.

Mr Morton acknowledged the difficulties experienced in the current 2006/07 potato season and praised Mr Pickup for his professional approach to supplying MBMG and it’s customers with quality assured potatoes across a wide number of varieties. Mr Morton went on to add thanks for all the hard work and efforts of the staff at MBMG.

Pepe Bascetta, Managing Director of MBMG told the 100 (approx) attendees of growers and staff ‘whilst the last few years have proved extremely demanding, we have come through a significant period of change and are all the better and stronger an organisation for it.

Mr Bascetta went on to add ‘Whilst the industry has endured unprecedented conditions in the last two seasons I am extremely confident about the future for MBMG. Our suppliers, customers and staff remain the cornerstones of our business and our success.’

This confidence and commitment to the industry is perhaps best reflected by a number of recent acquisitions that include Warrell Morton, Strathmore Potatoes and Doug Clarke Produce.
