Steven Lewin Named Glenthorn Grower of the Year Steven Lewin of Barkers Farm, Larling in Norfolk has been presented with the 25th annual Glenthorn Grower of the Year award by MBMG’s Procurement Director, Nick Morton. Steven, who only started growing potatoes 4 years ago, now grows 200 acres of specialist salad potatoes – Anya and Juliette - alongside his pig finishing enterprise. He was presented with the award for outstanding success and achievement in meeting tough production and quality standards. Steven said ‘We’ve moved along with MBMG’s advice and got into the specialist potato market. We used to do a lot of preparatory work – ploughing, flat lifting and stone preparation. I grew a few potatoes to start with because we had the kit and basically, it snowballed from there.’ His grandfather took over the farm in 1946, which was then farmed by his father until his death in 1993. Steven now runs Barkers Farms with his sons Simon and Nick. |
